The Donald gets a lot of media attention, and he absolutely loves it. Every time he has a large rally all of the media outlets have all eyes on him. What will he say next? Who will he offend in this rally?
Because of all of this attention ‘#NeverTrump’ has surfaced on Twitter. But when the alternatives are Hilary Clinton and Ted Cruz, is Trump really the worst candidate in the race?
Before I go into detail I will point out that I do not support Trump, nor do I think a Trump presidency would be good thing. I originally supported Jeb Bush, then somewhat reluctantly supported Marco Rubio, now I give up.
When the alternatives are Hilary Clinton and Ted Cruz, is Trump really the worst candidate in the race?
Sure, Donald Trump says stupid things. I mean, he says really stupid things. But Hilary Clinton and Ted Cruz have said stupid things as well, they just don’t receive the same level of attention as the Donald. Plus, when they have had power before they’ve done really stupid things.
Trump only says these stupid things for attention. If he is eventually President, he will not be ‘winning’, he will be losing. A lot. The Mexican government have already said they will not pay for the wall. The cheapest quote for the wall puts the price at least $25Billion, plus labour, not to mention all of the other issues it raises. Banning all Muslims is even more ridiculous, and even more implausible. Just like kicking out all illegal immigrants. Putting aside the moral issues, even the cost of implementing these ludicrous policies will be incredibly high, plus the chances of any of them being passed through the senate are zero to none.
So although a Trump Presidency would be bad, the policies that scare us and make us think he would be awful are all never going to happen. If you look at the things Cruz and Clinton want to do, they are possible, and would also be awful. Cruz and Clinton have the track record of bad decisions and disastrous policies which make them a bigger threat than Trump.
Clinton has a long list of scandals and unethical behaviour: Rose Law Firm (1992); Whitewater (1992); Travelgate (1993); Cattle Futures (1994); Lincoln Bedroom (1996); China Gate (1996); File Gate (1996); The Clinton Foundation (1997-Present); Iraq War (2003); Sniper Fire (2008); Benghazi (2012); Blumenthal (2013); Foggy Bottom (2013); Emailgate 1 (2013); Wall Street Speeches (2013); Emailgate 2 (2016) On top of that Bill has his own scandals that are still doing damage to both Clintons: Monica Lewinski; Paula Jones; Vince Foster; Juanita Broaddrick.
Hillary often cites her good judgement as a positive reason to vote for her. Just looking at her time as Secretary of State should be enough to prove that her judgement isn’t good at all. Her relaxed attitudes towards the law, and her belief that her judgement is better than the judgement of experts led to 4 deaths in Benghazi, then her decision to cover it up just made things worse. Hillary’s problem is her inability to tell the truth.
She currently advocates more military intervention in the Middle East, clearly she hasn’t learnt anything since Iraq, Syria, Libya etc. Despite saying that she regrets voting for the Iraq war. She also supports more drone attacks that have so far killed 2400 civilians. She wants to see more powers given to the NSA, and put surveillance into the lives of ordinary Americans. Depending on who she is talking to she changes her view on key issues such as gay marriage, the Keystone Pipeline, legalisation of marijuana, and the TPP deal. She is willing to say and do anything just to get back into the White House.

Ted Cruz isn’t much different from Trump. He too wants to build a wall on the Mexican border, and he thinks that Muslim neighbourhoods should be patrolled. However is some instances he goes further, and as I mentioned, his policies are much more realistic the Donald Trumps. He wants to carpet bomb the Middle East, with no care for civilians, and even use nuclear weapons. He was quoted saying “I don’t know if sand glows in the dark but we’re going to find out”. Is this really the safer alternative to Donald J Trump?
Remember when the US Government was shut down in 2013? That was because Ted Cruz didn’t like Obamacare. That shutdown cost the economy an estimated $23Bn. He claims to be a conservative but if he truly was then he would have a) respected the democratic mandate Barack Obama has as POTUS and b) ensured that money wasn’t so needlessly wasted to prove a point that achieved nothing. He compared the people that voted for the Affordable Care Act ‘Nazi appeasers’. I’m no fan of Obamacare but there is a significant difference between government health care and the deaths of millions of people caused by Nazi policies.

Last week Donald Trump made comments about banning abortion and punishing women who get them. Ted Cruz has been saying the same things his entire life, yet no one made a big deal about Ted’s abortion views. Trump supports abortion in cases of Rape and Incest, something Ted Cruz is still firmly against. After the media backlash Trump changed his mind, like he does on most of his policies, whereas Cruz still stands by his views. More evidence that Cruz is much more dangerous than Trump.
