Polling shows that young people are still anti-Brexit, most fearful of Brexit and most willing to pay more for a Brexit deal.
The Brexit Bill
Young people in Britain are more supportive of a higher Brexit bill than older generations, according to a new Survation poll. 18 - 34 year olds are more than twice as likely to support Britain paying a £50bn "divorce bill" compared to those over the age of 55 (31% compared to 13%).However, more young people said they disagreed with the £50bn fee than agreed, with 43% against it. This is still a much smaller proportion than older generations, where 70% opposed the amount.
Young 'Most Fearful' About Brexit
The poll also showed that over half of 18 - 34 year olds are "fearful" about leaving the EU, while just one in five described themselves as "excited". Again, this is in contrast to the over 55 age group, where a majority were "excited" at the prospect of leaving the EU, with just one third "fearful".Most Pessimistic About Completing a Deal in Two Years
Young people are also the least optimistic that the UK and EU will complete a Brexit trade deal within the two year time limit, though no age group was more optimistic than pessimistic.Soft Brexit Preferred, But Only Just
Young people slightly favour a soft Brexit to a hard Brexit, going against all the other age groups. However, a minority of 28% prefer staying in the EU which is similar to older generations. Here, a "soft Brexit" is defined as the UK staying in the single market and customs union.
Brexit 'Would be Better Under Corbyn'
An overwhelming number of 18-34 year olds believe that if Jeremy Corbyn was Prime Minister, the UK would get a better Brexit deal. Again, this is in contrast to older age groups who believe the deal would be worse under Corbyn.
Brexit 'Will Go Ahead '
A majority of young people also believe that the UK will leave the EU. However, a higher proportion believe that it won't in comparison to older age groups.
