What Do Boris Johnson’s Constituents Think of His Recent Behaviour? | Zac Ntim

As Boris Johnson walked off stage in Manchester at the Conservative Party conference to rounds of applause and praise, I spoke with some of his constituents in Uxbridge and South Ruislip to get their take on his recent behaviour.

The Foreign Secretary seems to have no intentions of keeping a low profile even though his 4000-word manifesto on Brexit in The Telegraph caused havoc in Westminster. He can be seen below out for a run with the editor of The Sun, Tony Gallagher.

And Jack, owner of Nightfly Records in Uxbridge is not amused. He said: “I’ve never seen or heard of Boris doing anything here in Uxbridge.

“He’s more interested in playing politics, he was in Myanmar reciting a colonial poem for goodness sake. I would not support him if he ran for Prime Minister.”

Uxbridge resident Hannah shares this sentiment, she said: “No I would never support Boris, he is a sly person and awful MP.

“He is much smarter than he lets on, he acts childish and silly so everyone thinks he’s a man of the people but he’s really out for his own interests.”

Though, Johnson has contested and won two elections in Uxbridge and South Ruislip the first with a majority of over 10,000. Sophie, a local college student, believes this is because “he’s funny, cool and cares about Uxbridge.”

Patel, a local shop owner, would “definitely support Boris if he wanted to become Prime Minister, he has been very good for us.”

Boris Johnson is clearly an acquired taste, splitting his party and constituency down the middle, although, many were rather indifferent about Johnson. Andy, a lifetime Uxbridge resident, said: “He’s a bloody idiot but he’s been alright round here.”

I’m not sure whether that bodes well for Boris’ leadership aspirations, but it is certainly better than the unified hate Theresa May adorns.
