NUS Delegate Promises Moon Base and Pledge of Allegiance in New Campaign Video

Tom Harwood, who caught the attention of the national media with his delegate campaign video last year, is running again.  In 2016, he launched an unusual campaign in which he pledged to "defeat ISIS" and "bring down the evil Tory government".  This time round, he says he'll build an NUS moon base, introduce a compulsory pledge of allegiance to the NUS before every lecture and continue his "sweeping agrarian reforms".

The campaign video has won the support of prominent political blog Guido Fawkes, who said he was "Speaking truth to the pious self-serving NUS lefties".

Harwood also ran for NUS President last year, but came third against Shakira Martin (who won) and Malia Bouattia (who came second, but was the existing President at the time).

However, there is a serious point to the campaign. Harwood helped to run Durham's NUS disaffiliation campaign earlier in the year which, although failed, got 40% of the vote.  He says he will represent those who voted for disaffiliation and has criticised the NUS as "a student wing of the Labour party".

Durham students can vote from the 8th - 11th December.
