Kings College REJECTS Student Union Officer Call For National Anthem Ban

The university Kings College London has said it will not consider banning the national anthem after a student union officer called for it to stop being used at graduation ceremonies, claiming it was linked to 'far-right nationalism'.

In a Facebook post, Mahamed Abdullahi, who serves as Vice President of Education, called the anthem 'God Save the Queen' "a bit shit", saying "it doesn't even bang". He continued, "Basically, fuck the nation state".

According the Mail Online, Kings College London initially said they were considering dropping the national anthem from graduation ceremonies. However in a later statement the university said it had "no plans to remove the National Anthem from graduation ceremonies".

The call to ban the anthem has faced criticism from students at the university and around the country. Students rejected the notion that the anthem is 'far right' and a petition, set up by student James Findon, calling for the university to keep the anthem has over 350 signatures.
