Students at City University London have passed a motion through their student union which bans the Daily Mail, the Sun and the Daily Express. Other students, and graduates, of the university, which is ranked as having the best journalism school in London by the Guardian, have reacted with 'outrage' and dismay.
The Student Union said that the newspapers "fuel fascism, racial tension and hatred in society". According to the Huffington Post, the newspapers are not currently sold on campus and it is not clear how the SU will implement the policy.
Whether the Student Union has the power to ban certain newspapers on campus is also in question.
The motion was passed with a majority of 15 votes (69 to 54), much to the dismay of journalism students and graduates.
You can read the full motion here, on the SU website. What do you think of this? A fair response to "the fascist media"? Or a outrageous attack on free speech and the freedom of the press?

City University (where I trained), has banned Sun/Mail/Express. 2 of those are their biggest grad employers. No words for their stupidity. pic.twitter.com/6sQEU0114V— Fred Nathan (@FreddieNathan) November 17, 2016
