Tory U-turn on the NHS

The Tories cannot be trusted with our NHS; and, this has become even more evident with their U-turn on St Helier Hospital in Carshalton and Wallington.

On June 17, during Prime Minister’s Questions Chancellor George Osborne MP reassured Tom Brake, Member of Parliament for Carshalton and Wallington, that the new government will save St Helier Hospital by providing it with the £219 million of extra funding the last government promised.

The Chancellor explicitly stated the following, ‘we did commit to that hospital project, and provided that it continues to represent value for money, which I am pretty clear that it does, we will go on providing that support’.
Whereas, Jeremy Hunt MP (Health Secretary) has said, ‘neither the Department of Health nor the Treasury is currently considering any capital or financing applications for the (St Helier) Trust’.

A clear cut U-turn!

What’s next? A U-turn on the additional £8 billion of NHS spending? A U-turn on the 7-day-a-week GP service?

Meanwhile, Tom Brake MP has promised that he ‘will always fight for the hospital’ and will continue with his Save Our St Helier campaign. He has also started a petition which has gained more than 21,000 signatures and can be found on the following link: http://www.saveoursthelier.co.uk/save_our_st_helier_petition
